About Counselling

What is Counselling?

In today’s modern world there are occasions when we may experience life’s challenges. Sometimes talking to friends and family is helpful and there are times in our lives when talking to someone outside of our situation can bring real benefit.  It’s at these times when counselling may be of great benefit.

The service offered by Counselling in Preston is built on the solid foundation that each of us is an individual with personal experiences and unique perspectives. The aim of counselling is to promote self awareness and facilitate a deeper understanding of who we are, allowing us to accept ourselves and change behaviour to that which is more  productive.

The counselling relationship isn’t about giving  advice or telling people what to do, it’s primary focus is to empower clients to express their feelings and tap into their own strengths and resources.  This perspective helps clients move  towards becoming the person you want to be.

How May Counselling Help?

Counselling is helpful for a number of issues, including:

Approach

Counselling in Preston adopt a Person-Centred counselling approach to therapy, where the relationship between counsellor and client is pivotal to the therapeutic process. With an opportunity to explore concerns in a non-judgemental and supportive environment, clients are able to become aware of underlying issues giving the opportunity to overcome obstacles to a more fulfilling sense of self.

Working in this way clients can be assured that my work is to a professional standard.  For further information about the guidelines, please follow the link: www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework

As a member of BACP my work with clients is confidential. Issues disclosed during counselling sessions remain for my part, in confidence. There are exceptions to this and there will be an opportunity to discuss this further at an initial counselling consultation.
